Artifact 1: General Education Class

Artifact 1 - GWS 150

The artifact I selected is a drawing I created for an assignment in which we were asked to design an image representing humanity to be sent into space. I intentionally avoided including specific facial features or overly detailed characteristics to prevent any potential misconceptions an extraterrestrial viewer might form based on appearance. Instead, I focused on representing a wide range of human bodies, including variations in weight and body shape, to emphasize inclusivity. I also made sure to include individuals with disabilities so that the image reflected a more complete and authentic picture of humanity. Creating this drawing taught me how important intentional representation is when communicating across cultures—or in this case, across species. It also pushed me to think critically about what it means to portray humanity in a way that is respectful, accurate, and inclusive. Overall, this artifact reflects my commitment to equity and thoughtful design in any creative or scientific project.
